What does the chain sound like when it rattles? Does it do it intermittently? My 22r makes a horrible growling sound every four or five seconds at idle. I thought that something was rattling loose in the first cylinder, but the timing chain makes more sense. Mine has 177k miles and I'm not sure if the chain was ever replaced. Should I check that first? Mine's an '83 22r.
