Getting the Wheeling Fever
What would make my jeep sputter around turns to the left, and off road on hills where the left side is higher than the right side??
Is the pick-up in the gas tank on the left side, or might I have a hole in the pick-up hose on the left side, and when you make turns to the left it sucks in air, and when you make turns to the right the hole is under the gas so it don't sputter...
If anyone has had a similar problem, I'd like to know what you did to fix it..
Thanks,
Matt

If it sucked air when cornering the air would not get to the combustion until you were OUT of the corner..
Maybe the carb?

I don't think you said what type of Jeep you had, but I'm going to assume that it is a carbureted engine. In that case, I'd first suspect a float level adjustment. Or a weak float valve spring.

You probably don't need to replace the carburetor, But I would clean it out inside and install a new carburetor kit. They're inexpensive and well worth it. I do mine every 15 years, whether it needs it or not! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh yeah, it's a '86 Cherokee with a 2.8, and it does have a Carb...
Now by kit do you mean rebuilding it???
How hard is it to install one of them..
Thanks,
Matt

Matt...maybe before we buy a carb we should talk about the "sputtering" some more.. Tell us just what it does and when. I have seen broken motor mounts cause stress in turns.
Does it do this at hiway speed?
Does it only do this in the boonies?
Tell us some more.

well the times I have noticed it on the road, you are going along and you turn on to a road on the left hand side, and you slow down probably to about 20, and make the turn, when you give it gas it starts surging, it'll go, then the rpms drop, then they come back up, and when you get out of the turn after about 20 feet it'll run fine...
It don't do it in sweeping turns, I guess it'd be sudden turns to the left...
that's about it for being on the main road..
