Hiya guys...I got it all back together tonight, put the key in it, and after turning over twice, it started right up. A bit shakey, but stays running with no coaxing and holds an idle. The valve train is very noisey. I would like to know 2 things. .....1) If I had done the timing belt wrong would it still have started up so easily? I can stand outside reach in and turn the key and it starts right up. 2) As you all know it had a blown head gasket. So within 2 blocks, the entire cooling system was bone dry. I look at the oil pressure gauge and it seems to be low to me. @ 20lbs at idle. Could the water mixing with the oil before have compromised the oil pump? When I do hit the gas it comes up to 40-50 lbs. I think I'm bringing it into Mits next week to just set everything right. Sound good? Thanks guys...

Find the Mitsu tech section and do the v6 lifter noise fix. Nice not paying someone else to do stuff on your vehicle. Good job.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Don't know about you, but I still do the victory dance every time an eddybuilt motor fires off the first time. Victory over chaos and disorder - another act of outlawry versus the laws of thermogydamics (sic) - ecce homo...

The average gas engine NEEDS 12 psi oil pressure at idle so @ 20psi you're good! (most idiot light senders turn on at 7 psi which means the damage is done) What brand oil filter are you using. I've seen cheap oil filters drop pressure. I used to work at an engine shop and we had several brands listed that would void the warranty if used (Group 7 filters were the worst and a lot of local garages started using them on their $20 oil/filter change service because they got them for like < $1). The lifter noise probably means the hydraulic lash adjusters haven't pumped up (or down) just yet. Let it idle for a while and see if it starts quiteing down. When we rebuilt the 2.6 and 3.0 motors we would pump the adjusters dry by compressing them in a vice a few times (squeezes the oil out of them). @ 20psi idle oil pressure, it may take some time to get them adjusted.

HEY GUYS!! After starting up, getting it warm, letting it sit overnight, I started it the next day..CAN'T HEAR A THING!!! purrs like a kitten! Todd you were right. I just changed all the plugs, found the number 2 had closed completely, which gave it the shake. It was running on 5 cylinders. Changed all the plugs wires, cap, rotor, oil change, using a Fram filter now, its great. All in total, with parts and doing it myself in my driveway..the entire truck cost me $700.00! As soon as I get my camera back, I'm gonna try and post some pics of it. And to tell you the truth, after being under, on, and in this truck, it tops my 87 LandCruiser, 90 Cherokee and 87 Cherokee in "heft". This thing is built tough. You can just see it, and feel it. Everything is just so heavy!..Talk to you all soon...You guys are great!

Glad to hear they adjusted out! And did your idle oil pressure raise after switching filters? what brand was on it before you put the Fram on? A lot of people bag on the Fram filters noting their quality has slipped but they are still way better then the cheapy filters (like the pep boys brand Pro-something, or the ones jiffy lube, quick lube, etc uses).
