. . . you also can look into small diameter implement tires. I've seen 33" tires on backhoes that have a 20-ply carcass and about 1.5" thick sidewalls.

Any thoughts/suggestions/leads on tractor/backhoe tires? That is actually what I was trying to find before I found the TSLÆs. (I hadnÆt found any yet.)
DavidG: I do appreciate your concerns--your concerns are valid--but tires are a necessary priority for my circumstances.

Many of the contractors I work with have tire guys come out to the job site. I'd suggest looking into your local yellow pages to find a commercial tire company nearby. Your brands will be typical Michelin, Goodyear, Toyo, but you'll have other brands like Hankook, too.

Welcome

I'm a doctor who works a fair amount with folks after traumatic brain injuries. one of the hardest parts to deal with is the short term memory deficits. develope the habit of carrying a pocket size spiral notepad with you everywhere to write details down on. The most recovery takes place in the first 6 months. A project like this will help retrain the brain; stay mentally active and you will have a better long term recovery. crossword puzzles are also good. Math games Like figuring out gear ratios, tire prices, etc... its all good.

What they don't tell you when you go on disability is that you can do part time seasonal work to supplement your income up to about $7000 annual. You can also employ yourself on a cash basis doing art stuff like welding, music, drawing and develope your non verbal talents.

With all that said, I second the idea of not spending lots of money on superswampers. I have been using Pepboys 235/85- 16 8 ply mud tires (no longer made) that I got on closeout for about $50 per tire new. Used tires are typically $25 to $50. I'd recommend that you pick up 4 used mud tires in any brand, any size between 31 and 33 inches and use the money you save to get a used MIG welder and some scrap steel. then you could supplement your income building bumpers, sliders, skid plates etc like a freelance mobile mechanic working out of your own truck. You would be doing something you like and networking with folks instead of living like a hermit. After awhile, people will forget that you have a head injury and know you as the guy who makes killer (fill in the blank) for a good price.

well if you plan on very little road use i would suggest maxxis trepador comp you'll get more lateral traction and sidewall bite than a tractor tire and still have the ability to air down for serious traction. this tire is probably the toughest truck tire you can buy and they are like any bias ply tire, not really road friendly

How much compared to the same size swamper?

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Greetings, folks!

As requested (and almost three years later), here are two photos of Rebecca the Raider.

Please forgive me for not being able to say more. Also, I do not have anything resembling a camera, so these photos are not very good!

Here are the amazing tires!

[Linked Image]

The tires are:
32x11.5 - R15, Super Swamper TSL/SX
and I got them from 4x4groupbuy.com
They have 7K miles on them after almost three years.

----

Here is a shot of the rear compartment with the seats removed, a hinged shelf installed, a 50-gallon water tank, going to a 12VDC shurFLO water pump, going to a hose to my on-site water tank, and a dustpan to route the pump drips away from the interior!

;-)

ÆBecca is a (very) hard working girl; there is nothing fancy about her, but I have never found a better off-road workhorse!

Blessings!

<sigh>

I really wish I could get the ARB Air Lockers! They have been needed many times (sand, slick rock, and snow drifts), but to get them would be about $1,300 per axle.

The nice thing about the TSL/SXÆs is that I donÆt have to put tire chains on themùthey disappear in the treads! I just wonder why theyÆre called 4WD vehicles when only two wheels turn when youÆre stuck!
