I think this is probably a ground problem, but I'm not sure where to look.
If the headlight switch is off, and I turn on either of the blinkers, the rear blinker works fine, and the front blinker is somewhat dim, and the opposite side front blinker also blinks very dimly. On the instrument panel, both of the blinker indicators and the high beam indicator all blink.
If the headlight switch is in parking light position or headlight position the same three indicators on the instrument panel come on. High or low beams makes no difference. Oh, and the headlights do not turn on. If I try a blinker at that time the indicator for that blinker dims slightly and nothing else happens. This behavior is the same regardless of key position (normally the blinkers shouldn't do anything when the ignition is off).
It's done this three times in the last week, and the first two times it fixed itself. The second time it happened to fix itself while someone was wiggling the headlight switch, but after looking at the wiring diagram I think that may have been a coincidence. Now, the third time, it's been stuck like this for two days.
I took out the headlight switch and tested it with a meter and as far as I can tell it is working fine. It seems like the headlights and other front lights ground through G104, which is on the inside of the driver's side fender (along with G105). I took those two off and cleaned them, but nothing changed. Also, there are a bunch of other things that use that ground that are all working fine.
What else should I look at?
Thanks, Ben

Sounds like those pesky squirells got up in there and played havoc with your wiring. Short term remedy: tear out all the wiring (I mean all of it!) and comepletely rewire everything Then spread peanut butter all over your engine.Long term solution: Put Nathan out there with a pellet gun to shoot those obnoxious varmits when they come back to feast on the peanut butter. Good luck

Well now it's started working on its own again, which makes it even harder to find out what's wrong. Guess I'll just have to wait until it happens again, then I'll figure out whether it's power or ground that's missing at the headlights and trace it back from there. I suspect I'll find it's ground missing though.
I think I'll pass on the re-wire peanut butter pellet gun solution, but thanks Dad.

Hopefully I fixed it... the connector beside the air filter box was all full of green rust and a couple of the wires snapped off of it when I moved it. I replaced it with crimp connectors and wrapped them up good with electrical tape.

If that area is partifularly liable to rust and corrode, you might try a product called Liquid Electrical Tape on your repair connections. I've used it on all under-hood connections and repairs with excellent results.

Thanks Bob. That's the second or third time that I've finished fixing something like that and then remembered or was reminded afterwards about liquid electrical tape. I've got to go get some of that stuff so I've got it handy next time. For this time I think the regular tape will have to do. It was kind of hard to get to, and the regular tape has got to be better than the plug was with its backside open to the elements.
