I recently purchased a 93 with the 3.0 v6. I'm trying to squeeze a bit more power out of the motor. I've opened up the exhaust but don't know what to do with the intake.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket air intake that would replace the restrictive stock air inlet sensor assembly? It has the sensor connected to the air door assembly.

K&N makes a replacement intake set-up, and I think there is another one, they run about $250 for th kit.

This is what the K&N one kind of looks like in my '90.
I turned it into a cold air intake system, all you get with the kit is the filter, tube, mounting plate and some brackets. It helps a little, but don't expect too much HP gains, you have to do several things to the 3.0 to get good hp increases. I am running headers, exhaust, cold air intake, a jacobs ignition system in mine, as well as having the cylinders bored .020 over(from hydrolocking it when it was new). I am not sure what the actual HP gains are, but I know it is a lot more fun to drive than my 22re(stock engine) X-cab which weighs about 1200lbs less

I dont have a v6 but Ive heard of some kind of mod with air intake breather ,throttle body etc.. off a supra to increase power

you take the AFM off the supra or cressida like early model of the 7mge i think. The ID of the AFM is bigger so it going to let it breathe more air in. Oh you can also get the throttle body off the 7mge too.

This is for the 22re not the 3.0. To date I don't know of any plug and play AFMs for the 3.0.

The secret to more power out of your 3.0 is $. The things already mentioned are good but for real noticable gains valves and cams seem to really wake this engine up. I did EB's oversized valves and have yet to complete my build. But the valves made a nice difference so far.

I was also looking to install the Jacobs ignition and wires as on your truck. Are you happy with the performance? Mine still has the stock ingnition with the small wires. I can tell it also needs help in this system to.

I don't have headers yet, but I did open the exhaust from the O2 sensor back with 2 1/2" pipe, magnaflow cat and muffler. It helped some but this motor obviously needs more flow.

Yes, I am happy with the jacobs set-up, it was the second upgarde, the K&N FIPK was the first. As with all of the 3.0 upgades none of them are profound increase in performance and power alone. With the Jacobs you do get better throttle/rev response, better mpg, and lower emmissions. I do notice a difference in performance when I have had the Jacobs disconnected, (I have had to replace the coil twice and the cpu once over the last 10yrs).

You can cut holes in the oem air box(on the bottom) to help it breath easier, this would give you an idea of how the after market intake systems would help. If don't want to cut on the box, you can remove the drivers head light and drive it around a bit and see if it performs better.

How open is the magnaflow mufler, I found with an open muffler I lost too much low end torque with my 3.0 and a heavy truck. It was great if I wanted to run in the hi 4k's or run the truck past 85mph in 4th, but it wasn't much fun driving it artound town or on the trail, and my mpg's suffered.
