Hey all, what's up? Can anyone tell me the best way to change my fabric top from tan to black...spray paint, professional dye job...? I'd really rather do it myself, but..........thank you.

Frankly, I've never heard of anyone doing that.

How old is the existing soft top? If it's fairly old and beat up, it might be worth while jsut getting a new top in the color you want.

I'd see no reason why you couldnt remove the top from the hardware and dye it with some RIT dying colorant. Just make sure to wash the top with cool water before puting it back into service. Take some before and after photos. Also it would be useful to use a new tub, garbage can, lundry basket for the dying process.

I assume it's vinyl, so no dye I know of will take. Paint won't last long because of movement and exposure and you can't bake it onto a top or use a kynar type factory application so you can't get a real tough paint job to start with. Buy a new top or live wiht what you got.

That's about twice what they cost. For example, Bestop SuperTop replacement skins are $360.
