Need a Spot
Hi, my 4runner has started leaking coolant and i belive it is through the headgasket.
I called Toyota Sweden (where i live) and asked about the recall of the 3VZ-e. They say that the "extra warranty" only cover cars with 93k miles or less. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> (mine is 142k)
Is it the same in the US or Canada?

FAIK, yes.
You might look into swapping in a 5VZ-FE, the cost may be comparable if you are handy. I don't know what European certification issues may be involved though.

Roll Me Over
If I remember correctly, the recall covered every vehicle once. However, if your truck had already had the HG's changed for a burnt valve, etc., than you wouldn't have qualified for the recall. Also not all 3.0's were under the recall, only certain years from certain Japanese engine plants, my '90 wasn't one of the engines covered by the recall.

I would contact the European Toyota Corp, and confirm what the recall covered in Europe.

If you aren't covered by the recall, changing the HG's isn't all that hard, just time consuming. The 1993 factory service manual at the top of the forum has the info you need to do the job yourself, and there are a few of us here who have done it as well.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.

OK, thanks for the tips. How is the mileage of the 5VZ-FE? Is it higher or lower then the 3VZ-E? What might the cost be to do a swap?
