The only advice that I can give, based on my past experience (and screw-ups) to to make sure you get ALL the rusty metal off before aplying any Bondo or paint..

ok, i work in a collision shop so i might just be able to help ya out a bit if you send me a msg. and about the rust...it'd be best if you just replaced the panel bc your never gonna get rid of the rust. even if it looks like you got it all, you didn't.

If you do have rust and want to wait to replace the panel, use a phosphoric acid type rust remover. There are alot of them on the market. The one I use is OsPho. Be careful, wear gloves and put cardboard down on the driveway cause it'll eat concrete too. Keep that young man in your avatar from playin around the area. Rinse(dilute) spills with water. Clean up the white residue with a wire brush before painting. Permatex makes another rust treatment who's name escapes me, but its more civilized and goes on white and turns black after it dries. It works good, slowing most rust areas down from decay considerably. Thats my experience with rust. Hope it helps. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

77 fiberglass CJ-7 304, Ground up Resto-mod Edelbrock Air Gap, Holley 1850, Headers and Flowmasters, Black Diamond suspension, BFG 33X9.50 on Outlaw I's. Hopefully on the road this year!
