Then why doesn't it overheat all the time and melt the wires? Why just one time? (in my case... thus far). Seems if the wires are underspec'd, I would have had a problem long before I did... and a continuing problem. No?

Well it's A/C time and I checked my wires and sure enough they get hot when the blower is running. Nothing is melted yet but the 2 pin connector is starting to get that toasted look.

I am thinking about taking the blower motor out and shopping it around to the auto electric places to get rebuilt. It's chirping sometimes at low speeds anyway. Maybe it will come back from the shop and draw less current??

Check the brushes. 4 crawler is selling replacements and I imagine any electric motor shop will have them. He has a good write up on his site if that looks like the problem. 4 Crawler

I found something and I'd like to see if anyone noticed the same thing.

One of the screws that holds the fan into the housing is rusty.

I actually saw water dripping out of the fan the other day when I took the truck out in heavy rain.

If there was water here, the connector contacts may be corroded. (The connector housing, and terminals with wire attached, are available from the dealer. Let me know if you want these part numbers.)

I will post again when I inspect the fan, but that will be later. I'm cleaning out the interior of my truck now.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Same thing with my T-100, one bolt is rusty.

I finally got tired of my fan going out and fixed the connection. I couldn't find a connector like the white plastic one, so I just cut the wire, replaced it with some heavy wire from Radio Shack and used two connectors that fit the tabs on the fan blower. The fan works great now and I haven't noticed any heat.

Easy fix that cost about 8 bucks (wire and connectors).

Thanks for mentioning that Vern.

You might like to keep watch for water leaking from the fan. So many of us have complained about the blower fan wires (I'm sure mine corroded from water) and musty smell in the truck.

I was glad to see this thread up here this week because I was having a problem with my fan, too... Sunday morning as we are pulling out of a campground, I turned on the AC in the truck and it made an awful racket, like something is hitting the blades and there was a bit of a burning smell when I put it on high. However, it ran more or less OK at the lowest setting making the trip home tolerable. <unfortunate foreshadowing> I joked to the kids that maybe something crawled in there and died </unfortunate foreshadowing>.

Monday morning the same symptoms. That afternoon the same plus a funny smell, vaguely of fish. That night I opened it up and found that a mouse had made a very poor choice in locating his new nest... Poor little guy, he must have moved in during the day Saturday while the truck and campsite sat unattended while we were out.

Maybe that's why they call it a ...

<rim shot>

On the upside, we got 23mpg on the trip from the flatlands up into the Smokies. Not exactly hypermiling, but kept it around 65, tires at 45 psi, and sort of drafted semis (2 car lengths) a bit. Not bad for a truck with 200K!
