Hi guys......
Got a 1995 T100 ext cab 3.4L ......
Today as it was idling with the AC running, the fan motor suddenly went out....not slowing down and acting erratic....just OUT.....
Put in a new 40 amp fuse, but still no reaction.....

Thanks in advance for any experiences/ideas.....

Did the 40A fuse blow? If so you may have a short somewhere. A lot of reports of the wires to the fan motor heating up, melting the insulation, and shorting together. If the fuse was OK then check the 2 wires going to the plug next to the fan motor. Blue with a red tracer is the 12V from the 40A fuse. Blue with a black tracer is coming from the motor looking for ground. Should be 12V on both of them with the plug still in. That checks the wiring from the source through the motor. If you can jam a piece of wire into the plug with the blue/black wire, the other attached to ground, the fan should run on high. If so you have either a bad blower switch or a bad blower resistor. The resistor is attached to that 4 wire plug behind the motor, mounted in the plastic airway. 1 phillips screw takes it out and you can check it out. Probably the highest failure rate item in the circuit because it dissapates a lot of heat.

I have the same problem. I just jiggle the wires to the motor, under the glove box, then it works fine for a while. Haven't had time for a permanent fix yet.
Hope yours is that easy.

Thanks garym and J_Bird.....

Removed the glove box for a better view...did a little cleaning...jiggled a few wires as instructed...and VOILA!!!!!.....the fan motor is working fine again.......
BTW...the Texas Gulf Coast requires AC most of the year....
so once again......A BIG OLE THANKS!!!!!.......

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Man I love this site. Fan went out two days ago, did a search and found this post. Jiggled the blue and red wires and it started back up. I disconnected the wire from the fan and the heat had melted the insulation. Short term fix was some electrical tape, but the connector and wires have been at such a high temp they are almost shot.

I imagine the dealer would of charged at least 300 for this little job.

Thanks all,

Vern

Yup,

That post sums up all the issues I'm seeing. I'm hoping the wires may of been poorly insulated from the start and might of shorted out, otherwise, I'm sure this will become more of an issue. I have a meter that I can check the current being drawn, anything more than 12 volts may hint to an issue with the motor. Anyone have any more ideas?

Thanks,

Vern

I've not had any more trouble out of mine after I wrapped the affected wires with electrical tape. I think Erik had similar issues too.

I sure would be curious to know what caused them to overheat in the first place.

I thnk it is just heat. If you run your heater you have all that heat that rises and builds up in that area down there, and add the heat generated by the current going through the wires and finally the insulation melts through or off. I would blame it on poorly specd. wires.
