I saw a "canter" in an older offroad adventures magazine the other day. It was in theXXXpedition article about the blue XJ with the black hood box. The guy was German, and he the article said it was a "heavily modified Mitsu Canter"

Did these trucks come in 4wd? did they have solid axles?
From what I have seen offered on Ebay, it looks like they are front leaf sprung solid axles. I guess this means the 4wd versions had SFA?
Is a Fuso a Canter?? Rebadged sorta thing? like pajero/shogun/montero....

Can I get a 4wd fuso truck in the US??? I'd sure as hell like to have one! Big 4 cyl deisel... hhmmmm
Canters got SR axles!?!? what is this all about!?
Discuss please.

Is this what you are planning to build http://www.hackneys.com/mitsu/ ? Posted this earlier nobody seem to take interest.
Did you try google <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> (Canter = Fuso) Yes 4WDs are/were available.

They had/have solid axles. Unfortunately the only model sold here is medium duty. Abroad they used to have/still do light duty one with SR like axle rear, solid axle front and 2.8TD unfortunately this one has never been imported to US otherwise we could have absolutely legal source for 2.8TD drive line.

I've written about the Mistubishi Fuso trucks on occasion. The guy I know with an FG140 has a large sevice body on it, lots of tools, and can still pull hills better than my Riader, getting better fuel economy. I window shop at [color:"blue"]www.traderonline.com[/color] when I need a fix.

In the early 90s I had a Mitsu Fuso with box on it for a business I was running. I also had an Isuzu flatbed with five speed.
The one issue I had with the Fuso being that it was an automatic and the turbo was the early non wastegate style, When starting up a particular steep hill it would not come on boost till about 1800 rpm, but due to the hill I could generally just get to 1600 so I was stuck there at a slow speed dreaming for another 100 or so revs to spool the turbo so I could accelerate. On some days it would come on boost and it would climb right through the gears.

The Isuzu would spool up down around 1200 revs and had a very nice gear selection as long as you did not want to get over 67 MPH.
If I ever decide to get into another Fuso again I will be sure to get the wastegated turbo so you can get going from a stop.
In perspective the Mitsu was a far better truck, cab and chassis wise, the Isuzu was a better handling truck but that would be due to the lower center of gravity due to being a flat bed but the cab was shaking itself apart.

Does the US delivered truck have a solid front axle? I seem to recall surfing in the past and could only find IFS in US.

At the same time, I was finding solid front with discs overseas. I think that may even have been back when Curtis was doing his front swap. I was dayreaming about a Mitsu SAS and then Montero Sport for the rear, discs all round then...

My Fuso was solid axle w/ disc, my Isuzu had drum front.
The axles in these dwarf the SR parts. The GVW is well more than double what a Montero is.
