All -
I'm in the process of adding larger tires (going from stock to either 31" or 32"...haven't decided) now that I've done a mild lift. However, I don't have time to regear before a road trip. What, in general, will be the effects of larger tires to the Rodeo (2004 DI) performance at highway speeds (65+) on relatively flat roads without a regear: less power? engine runs at higher revs? I know that speedo will be off and the gas mileage will decrease but I just wanted to know what to expect.
Thanks!

Engine should run @ lower revs, a larger tire makes fewer revs per mile. I'm running 33's on mine(stock gearing) & just put on 3000+ miles to Moab & back with no issues other than about 11% speedo error(reads less than reality) & poor mileage.(trip avg. 14-15)

go for it. You should be fine with only 31's or 32's. Speedo will be off a little.

Going to 265/75R16 (almost 32") from the stock 145/70R16 (about 29") did not affect acceleration or mpg too much (maybe one mpg, if that). The speedo correction is 7%. It might affect towing a little, but our trucks are geared low enough that this change is easily absorbed.
The above was when I switched to the larger Dueler Revo AT's. Later when I went to Interco TrXus Mud tires, I lost 50 miles per tank of gas. I bought another set of wheels and got Revos again. I switch out to the Interco's for serious off-road trips. So, it's not just size, but type of tread that affects mpg.

I went from the stock 245/70 R16s to 265/75 R16 Dueler ATs for the first 58,000 in my stock geared & 3" lifted '02 RS. Didn't notice that much of a difference except for a slight drop in fuel mileage and speedo differences. I just went up to some Nitto 285/75 R16 ATs w/ Flowmaster muffler, and my mileage fell even lower PLUS it felt like the torque just disappeared...(too much exhaust flow & even bigger tires don't mix). I got a used PowerVault in great condition and I got some oomph back, but the speedo is still off. I get right at 205 to 210 miles per tank in the city (smaller '02 Rodeo Sport gas tank...grrr!!). More ground clearance with the tires however, plus they look nice...
You can't do wrong w/ 32" (maybe even 33") tires, in my opinion. If you are a heavy duty off-roader, stay between 31" & 32". Hope this helps. Good luck and CHECK YOUR AIR PRESSURE!!
