I have an 87 4Runner SR5. Until yesterday my a/c always blew cold. You know how you push the green a/c button and feel the power surge from the engine? Well yesterday I hit the button, There is now power loss at all, and it blows warm air. Any quick fixes?? or is my a/c bought the farm?

Perhaps you need to top off the refrigerant, if the pressure gets too low the limit switch won't allow the A/C compressor to kick on. But you do have more power now with the A/C button pushed <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

The "more power" is probably the A/C idle up valve kicking in, it bumps the idle RPMs up a few hundred RPM with the A/C running.

Also check the A/C Fuse, located behind your glove box.

make sure that if and when you buy a recharge bottle, make sure to get the R134 conversion kit. the one i bought was super easy to use and was pretty cheap

Thanks for the responses. I took it to a local Auto Zone and the manager said that I was out of freon. He suggested that I get it converted over to the new R?? something or another. He also said that he could do the conversion for me for $200.OO which also consisted of pumping out the old stuff stuck in the system. He is the store manager and he says he has converted over 30 toyotas already. Should I trust him or should I go find a place that will fill it back up with freon??
