Need a Spot
i have a stock 1977 cj-7 three speed. I just found a newer/rebuilt engine with a 5speed transmission i was wondering if anyone knew if it would fit or would i have to buy a transfer case adapter <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I assunme you mean a Dana 20 transfer case? The AMC 20 is a rear axle.

Fit depends on the particular transmission you have. I suggest that you find out the designation fo the particular tranny you're talking about, and then call Advanced Adapters and find out if it will fit direct, or if you will need an adapter.

1977 CJ-7, fiberglass body, AMC 360 w/ headers, DUI ignition, Edelbrock intake and Holley 4150 carb, TF999, Dana 300, 4.56 gears lockers, York air comp, 4" susp lift, 2" body lift, BFG 35" M-T tires, Megashifter, AGR pump & box, REP8000 winch.

Dana 20 t case has the same bolt pattern as a Dana 18 and scout dana 300 case.
D20 is a very good strong t case, but lacks low enough ratio in low range.

The trans you have (provided it is out of a later model CJ) will work with a Jeep dana 300, but not your d20.

The biggest problem is that the T150 tranny you have is stronger than the 5 speed (t-5) anyday. so...the best solution for reliabe strong upgrading is to go with a t-18 4 speed, and keep your d 20 case or really upgrade and do a t 18 with a d300 behind that. Call Mitch at RMH Transmissions 303-808-1268 he can fix you up.

The t5 is junk, beware. This is the time to upgrade to a better tranny. Afterall you will be getting new driveshafts to go with the t5, sooner or later you will be doing it again.
