From the pic shown, the bottom will be plenty wide... The center console in the 4Runner takes up nearly a foot of width out of the center of our rigs, and our mounting follows the earlier, second gen truck pattern (compared to your 3rd gen 89).

I always sit pretty upright when I drive, so hopefully the recline function will be strong enough to hold me up.
