Hey guys I just got the truck I have been looking for for a long time 1995 T-100 Sr5 4x4. It has low oil pressure and a ticking noise in the engine. I am freakin out that it needs a valve job. I am no mechanic I just loves toy 4x4's. I drove the thing home 600 miles no prob and the guy I bought from said it always had the tick and not to worry. I want better oil pressure though and no noise I am anal about noises in my trucks. It does not burn or smoke oil and the power seems good. Starts and idles good too. I was thinking maybe a new oil pump would help the pressure and perhaps cure the noise??? HELP! Thanks

If you are relying on the Toyota oil pressure gauge to say it is low, that seems to be a standard Toyota problem with the gauge. Mine shows a little under half when cold and then drops down to just above 0 at idle when warm and has done so quite successfully for some time. If you really want to check the pressure, get a calibrated gauge or mechanic to hook up to it. As far as the ticking, who knows? Does it do it all the time, when warmed up, under load, ??? Is it an auto or manual?

Thanks for the quick reply man. My oil gauge is doing exactly what yours is so maybe the pressure is not a problem. My buddy owns the midas shop in town and it is going in there tomorrow. Mine is an automatic and the ticking is all the time. Low speed high speed warm cold everything. It is right in the engine and it speeds up when you rev the rpms. Truck seems to run awesome but I can't help but think this is a valve or lifter noise?

that is just a quirk of toyota oil pressure gauges. don't worry about it. it always reads really low.

If its ticking, did you check the oil? Might be low.

Was wonderin if you guys think this could be a timing issue? It starts good but sometimes have to hold the key on start for a sec seems like the timing might be a tad off??

Have you ever owned a toyota before btw? They dont sound liek normal engines for some reason, all of them do it, it seems.

>>>*One thing to check, there are some grommets in the firewall that help to shield noise from the cab.

I drove one of those and thought it was noisy as all getout, but when I got out of it it was..well, as normal as they get?

So I got to snooping and found nothing wrong, even put a remote oil pressure guage on it. That read 12#, oceans, the stock gauge was scarey.

Finally I read a post online about the firewall, I think on the old T4X4pickup.com board, checked and yep. Grommet gone.

Got one, stuck it in, they are split and slotted so that was easy.

Noise all gone....*EB

I remember that one about grommits too. Esp in the older Toys.

Exhaust leaks can let you hear a lot of noise that you ordinarily wouldn't hear either.

Inspect! OR turn up the radio. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
