If my limited knowledge on this system is somewhat correct, I'm guessing that the colder intake air, whilst improving combustion efficiency, also tricks the airflow sensor into thinking that there is more air flowing than there actually is which might in turn increase the amount of fuel going through the injectors. Maybe that's why the CAI improves power, not because of better air but richer fuel mix??
