Assuming the Mighty Max is the same as the Montero in the Directional Input Apparatus Department, what was the part # on the wheel kit used to install said Apparatus? (BTW, I'm bored at work <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />)

I run a Starion wheel in mine, I did this to get the stereo controls. There are plenty of aftermarket hubs out there.

When I built my 1st gen I used the head unit from a Starion, I had bought a full running 3 year old car to get the engine.
Many Mitsus have stereo controls in the steering wheel. Way back in the 80's they used an inferred transmitter in the wheel with a receiver mounted in under the column switch assy.
The Montero just needed trimming out some plastic on the dimmer side to mount the receiver, this has a light 4 wire cable that plugs into the OEM radio.
The transmitter in the wheel gets its power from the horn circuit.
Newer units use the clockspring for the steering wheel controls. I should look into using a steering wheel from a 3000GT or a Diamante to control the headunit from a 3000GT that I use.

Cheers, Charlie

Interesting, but this won't work with an aftermarket head unit, will it? (the infra-red transmitter one)

Way back there was an aftermarket unit that had a wired remote and offered an adaptor for the Starion, But that was when the Starion was on the market. I have no memory of the brand and that would be an obsolete radio by todays desires.
My Stereo priorities are mid level and I still use an OEM headunit and CD changer coupled to aftermarket speakers. It is good enough for my aging ears.
