I don't think the engine ever has been reconditioned before. It had 200000 miles on it and it certainly looked like it too. Besides nobody here in Sweden bothers to restore japaneese engines since the parts here are very expensive and hard to come by. That's why I oredered from you!
BTW if the engine hasn't been worked on before is it still possible that the shaft could be worn so that the std bearings are oversized?
Back to the pressure, are those measurements in psi, I need to know in order to convert to "bar" as we use here?
I'm getting the new gauge today and hoping for a good reading!

Those are PSI measurements...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Switched oil pressure gauges to the one that originally came in the instrument and it also showed a low reading. The other gauge I baught didn't fit the threads in the block so I'll exchange it on monday.
I don't see why the bearing clearence would cause low oil pressure, but one thing's for sure I got scared as hell when I got that answer. Could there be any other explanations besides the bearings, that are a bit easier to fix, you could calm me down with???

my oil pressure is a slight under 70 psi on startup and runs about 45-50 going down the road. I have an autometer mechanical hook to it. there is a port inside the passanger motor mount to screw into without messing with the gauge sensor

>>>*I do wish I had an answer.

If the bearing clearence is too large, the oil simply flows out the sides of the bearings and back into the oil pan.

You really are describing a bearing clearence issue, sorry...*EB

Meh i always unscrewed the sensor below the oil filter and thats were i put my oil gauge. I only have the idiot light cluster and the oil light still seems to work properly, it will flash on when the motor is bogged down to low RPM.

My guage reads 30-40 at idle and running pressure is 60-70 ish. My motor is at about 180k and stock bottom end with work on the head at 167k.

I have seen it peak at almost 80 when im turning 6000 rpm though, is that to high? It has been that way since i put the guage in with the head gasket so i dont know what running pressure was before then.

Regarding the bearing clearence; I'm almost 100% certain that nobody before me has worked on the bottom end of this engine. I didn't measure the crank and assumed that every measurement inside the engine still was standard. So it feels kinda strange that there would be clearence issues when the crank hasn't been worked on, or could it be worn after 200,000 miles?

Finally got a seconadry pressure gauge mounted. Couldn't get a hold of a mechanical, seems hard to get in Sweden, but the electrical reads 2-3 bars (30-45 psi) at idle and 6-7 bars (90-100 psi) running.
Still don't know why my stock sending unit sends a low reading. It worked just fine on my old engine???
Just glad it wasn't the main bearings!!!
