Google the MotoMan Break-in if you want to see the motorcycle equivalent. It is controversial in motorcycle land. Yet, somehow, it sounds amazingly like Ted's procedure! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

>>>*It actually is the same. It isn't rocket science, the engine needs some RPM to get oil to all locations as quickly as possible, and it needs to be loaded to medium levels to bed in the rings.

The common thought is to take it easy so as not to "hurt" anything, that is exactly wrong.

Just keep it well short of outright abuse, which would be extreme RPM or overheat or hauling heavy loads, things like that.

*Besides, if something DOES break, you want it close to home, the tow bill is less...*LOL**....*EB

Getting the Wheeling Fever
eb is right on the money (as if my confirmation means anything...). The first important thing is to break in the cam, which takes about 15-20 mins (as described in eb's earlier post about the first 15 mins startup.....if the engine was rebuilt by a shop, they should have completed this step).

The only thing I would add is to change oil and filter after the first 100 miles or so....no matter what, when your engine is "breaking in", you'll have little tiny particles and metal shavings floating around in there which I'm sure you don't want.
