Getting the Wheeling Fever
There are two values for the stiffness of the cars:
torsional stiffness
lateral stiffness

Does anybody know the values for our sportage?
I am looking for the 3d.

why make things so difficult?

take the weight of the vehicle and the percentage front to rear and find a similar vehicle, use coils for that similar vehicle or have some custom made, build links according to link articles printed in Peterson's 4wheel and Offroad and Pirate4x4 Gen4x4 Bulletin Board section and Tech articles located in the Tech section.

there is no magic involved, and no complicated physics, just simple, "been done before" info floating around. just gotta know where to look.

now, are you looking for torsional stiffness of the body, the frame, the body and frame, the entire vehicle? and next, why, exactly? and last, what is this 3D you're looking for?

3d = 3 door. That means the 'short' sportage.

I am looking for the torsional stiffness of the frame and body.

It has to be done for a SAS project and the question is if Sportage's stiffness is enough taking in consideration the weight.

Thanks for any information

I'm not sure but in any case it has to do for a competition car which will not be driven at the open roads.

i must be dumb. i don't understand why all the technical wonderment. i would make a simple guess that if you jump it and it lands on one corner, it might bend a little, so, add a rollcage with supports that extend to the suspension points and front and rear ends of the bumper. build the cage such that it will deflect a good hit at just about any corner of the vehicle and any open areas of tube could be relatively easily replaced if bent. there should be plenty of tiangulation in said roll cage and if it were built for Baja here in America, it would have to be built from chromoly tube.

i don't think there's as much math involved as you're worried about. i think it's a lot of eye-balling and previous experience.

this is all just my opinion, because i pretty much operate on eyeballing and previous experience.

dont worry dave to do a sas conversion over here in oz u need to do a finite elemnt analisis on the chassis to see where the stress points are gunna be ......the rules over here state that u need to it with 4 wheels on the ground and 5 fives more pressure on the chassis and on two wheels with 2.5 times more pressure on the chassis.....bugger me i think ill just stick to the irs i think .....but now have to let me mate know i might not be buyin his diffs........bugger...but you get that hey....
