Montero NM or NP or GEN 3 ARB Bumper? #821685 06/28/07 03:32 AM

First, I have Searched. lol.

Has anyone on the board either installed, or witnessed an install of and ARB bumper on a GEN 3 Montero/Pajero? OR even seen one on a GEN 3?

My Question is this, "How does it attach?"

A simple enough question you would think, but I just removed the front bumper of my GEN 3 and stood there scratching my head wondering? That was after I thought about calling Mitsubishi and asking them if they forgot to put something on the front of my truck I know, crash test bla bla bla, whatever!

Anyways, I had decided to build my own bumper, and was just curious how the ARB was attached.

Anybody have any insight? Thanks in advance.

there is no frame horns just a crossmember to build mounts off of, i thought the same thing when i looked behind the bumper cover only to find no bumper. i always thought there was a metal bumper behind those plastic things. anyways i don't know how the ARB bolts on and i never did build a bumper for that truck

Yeah! The Bumper (cover) weights like 10 pounds all together, lol. I didn't see anyplace convienent to bolt a bumper to, thats when I started scratching my head.

I mean I can do like Icysyrup did and trim down the seams and weld something on, but I was just curious how ARB did it? I mean do you have to cut or weld to install their bumper?

It would not be hard to fab up some 1/4" plate and weld it to the sides or box around those little frame horns that are up there. I considered it with my winch-mount but it was easier to just weld on top of them...they are pretty sturdy.

If it were me i would weld them on there extending out 4-6 inches and then make the mounts from there for the bumper. I still have yet to see any fatiguing or stress cracks from winching from my mount the way it is and have done straight sideways winch pulls to get me off a tree.

It sucks that there is really literally NOTHING behind that Tupperware on the front. Oh well...makes for a better approach angle heheh cause it flexes.

Thats Funny!

Yeah, I am thinking that I will trim it like you did and then box it in, providing a place to bolt the bumper to.

I was looking at it and thinking I could go back about 12" on the outside of the horns, just need to be carefull of the ABS wires. That would provide extra support to the front, but I am also concerned that it may corrupt the crumple zone and the air bag sensitivity, but not really too worried.

I wouldnt worry bout the front crumple zone. As for the impact sensors they are behind/beside the rad and it wont affect them...I would do just as you said. Box in those in the front ends like you said and it will be good to go.

And also we BETTER see pics

What did you do with the Windshield Washer Tank? I hate it and it must be re-located or replaced . I was thinking about behind the airbox near the pass side firewall.

I did take some pictures of the rocker protection, just havent posted them yet.

I didnt do anything as far as the relocation of the washer fluid. I just left if there for now...eventually i will move it somewhere. There is lots of room behind the airbox, but my winch box controller/solenoid is right behind the airbox now so i will find somewhere else when the time comes.
