Hi, I have owned a Holden Frontera 2002 for 1.5 years. After its last service at 75,000 kms ( I've owned it for the last 10,000 ) the mechanic has told me to sell it as it is known to have a problematic engine.

I actually looked at trading it for another vehicle but the salesmen who is known to me and is okay found out that he would have trouble selling it to his wholesaler and that resulted in him offering a very low trade. He said it was due to the engine design and specifically to do with the high pressure injection system.

I am perfectly happy with the vehicle but am worried that I am awaiting a probably expensive engine repair in the not to distant future. I would like anyones opinion on this.
Also I have read previous forums on this site and have found it useful but would like some more clarification. As a result I will check the oil that is being used
Some more detail of my vehicle
Its a 4JX1 engine
New Zealand new
I don't know if it was always slow to start when cold but definitely after its first service with me as owner. Perhaps they used a different oil. Could this be a cause?
At certain revs the motor can be a bit rattly. Sometimes accalerating slowly low revs coming out of a corner it will be a bit noisy or rattly.
From previous posts I have some questions
-Someone has mentioned a factory recall on only japanese imported 4JX1 engines in New Zealand. Mine is NZ new. They also said symtoms associated with problems are hard starting. So does that just apply to the japanese imported ones or mine as well. What are they repairing that fixes them?
-Is mine hard to start or is it normal for its design. One posting said it is normal,ie.. cranking 1-2-3-4-5-6 start when cold and never to turn the key and crank the motor without letting the glo plug light go out. Especially not stopping half way through the crank.
- By the way I have changed the glo plugs hoping to shorten cold start time but has made no difference.

Well thats it really, just want to know if I should keep it and if so what could I do. Thanks for any suggestions.
