The new Tacoma double cabs have a 40ft turning radius. The double cab long bed, even a 44ft radius. I know it is because of the increased distance between front and rear wheels, but is there a way to increase the steering angle range? Or are the wheels already close to hitting the axles at full stop?

From what I recall from the last time I was under the front end, no. IIRC they are on hard stops.

I happen to know of a very little-known, yet very effective method of sharply reducing your turning radius:
First, make sure the truck is warmed up. The temp gauge should show the needle in the middle.
Second, pre-stage your truck by slowly approaching the area immediately surrounding your planned turn-around.
Finally, depress the brake with enough force to keep the vehicle firmly stopped.
Then, with the brake pressed, floor the son of a ***** while simultaneously cranking the wheel in the desired direction.
Release the brake once you detect a large cloud of blue, acrid-smelling smoke in your rearview mirror.
By the time you realize what's going on, you should be in the right direction, and can ease off the gas and continue your leisurely drive with the family.

I need it to be able to maneuvre in relatively tight spaces. At low speed. And not just u-turns.
I have a 4runner now, which is running on its last legs and the only thing stopping me from buying a new tacoma is the large turning circle. I could go for a new 4runner, but would rather have the options of loading larger objects once in a while.
Hard bumpstops can be ground off.
