Getting the Wheeling Fever

Need Help i have a 89 jeep cherokee and i cleaned my engine with degreaser and the hose and now the engine wont shift out of first. When driving its fine to start out but will not shift the rpms just keep going up. But when i let off the gas and get on it again it acts like its in neutral and wont move till it hits 2500 rpm. Any questions what i might ahve got wet and where the wiring for the transmission is .
