Getting the Wheeling Fever
Need Help i have a 89 jeep cherokee and i cleaned my engine with degreaser and the hose and now the engine wont shift out of first. When driving its fine to start out but will not shift the rpms just keep going up. But when i let off the gas and get on it again it acts like its in neutral and wont move till it hits 2500 rpm. Any questions what i might ahve got wet and where the wiring for the transmission is .

Body Damage is Cool
The first thing I would do would be to start the engine (outside) and let it idle for about 30 minuts, in order to get everything heated up and dried out. Then take it on a 10-15 mile road trip to exercize the tranny and gears. Then re-assess the situation and see what works and what doesn't.

The engine control unit should be on the passenger side fender well in the engine compartment.

Also, there are a couple of cables by the air intake that you need to check. One is the throttle cable and it does pop out of the holder and will cause the rpms to increase if not firmly seated.
