Just curious what, if any, experience you guys have had with Firestorm power tools. My neighbor just got a new 24v drill made by them, and it seems really nice. Much cheaper than Dewalt, and seems to work just as well. I'm sure it's not as tough or long lasting as Dewalt, but I would like to hear some opinions. There are a couple tools I'm considering getting, and with Lowe's running a 12 month interest free dealio, I might do it now. smile

Firestorm is the low quaity version of dewalt and of course a lot cheaper. Bateries are a lower amp hour rating as an example. Usaly when firestorms break they are not worth repairing. For the average homeowner hanging the odd curtain rod the stuff is OK. If you can afford it I don't even reccomend Dewalt but rather Makita or Milwaukee. (I'm inthe tool repair business and we are authorized service centre for all the major brands). Also stay away from Depot's "Ridgid" brand. The pricing is not that great and parts and service hard to come by.

Ya know, it's kinda funny thinking that pretty much all my tools (now lelegated to home use only) say things like Snap-On and Mac on them

Snap-On makes a really nice cordless grill with enough power to move cars, but at a price

Wow, okay thanks. I guess someone who works on the tools should know! I'd LIKE to get all high end stuff, but I don't know if I can justify the cost. Most of my corded tools are either B&D or Skil, and they've all served me well for over 17 years now. My stuff usually sits on a shelf most of the year, and then the wife or kids come up with a "project" for me to do, and I have to go to work. I hate decisions like this, and the cheap-skate in me usually wins.

For those kinds of light duty projects a cheap drill would probably work. I have a craftman 24V that I have used for years and was not that expensive. But as far as the recommendation for Makita I will give it a big X2!! My dad is in the shutter business and spends days on end installing large shutters and blinds. He uses nothing but Makita and has had some of the same ones for many years. For larger projects or constant use the higher price is worth it.

I picked up the Firestorm 8 piece 18v set for $120 on sale at Lowes a few weeks ago, to good to pass up with 3 batteries included. I just built a 150 ft. shadow box fence this week and the only complaint is the battery life but with 3 batts it's no big deal. But I just use the set for little odd jobs anything more serious i would step up to better ones.
