Hey guys, I went under my truck yesterday to find that my torque rod wast connected to the frame. I lifted my truck 3" about a year ago, so I've been driving it like that for awhile (no wonder it handles like crap). Anyway, I'm having a problem lining up the holes on the bracket and rod. It seems that the truck needs to be higher, and the axle needs to go lower.. which makes no sense seeing how the truck is lifted. Anyway, does anyone have any tips on getting this sucker in?

Also, just an FYI, when I brake, my truck wants to turn to the left... but I've read that it's supposed to turn to the right. Oh well.

Might be the axle rotated or moved forward with the lift, shortening the hole spacing. But some ideas to install at to raise the front end up to get the holes to line up. Or use a come-a-long to winch the axle bracket back to line the holes up. I had to do this on my '85, only winching it forward until I got an adjustable length torque rod.

Had a friend that had the same problem. His fix was to add an extension on the mount on the axle. Made it so the torque rod was parallel with the frame like it was stock.

Or you can make an adjustable torque rod.

Another friend found a shock that would fit in there fully collapsed, that way it still allowed for droop on the trails.

The real fix is to get an IFS steering box and x-over steering

Fab up your own adjustable-length t-rod.
You might need an after-market extender-bracket as well. Thats what I did.
I used a heim-joint, a coupler with the same thread,
and a die. Then cut your stock rod, thread it, and assemble.

My setup is not as good as x-over, but it gets me thru the Rubicon, and gets me home.
The geometry isn't quite right, since it still has some brake-steer, but tolerable.

I had similar problem a few months back. Fixed it by bringing it to my local shop (great guys) who used their come-along and a rubber malet - took 10 minutes - no charge <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

The torque rod should be under no load when the truck is sitting on all 4 tires... I fixed mine by cutting off the one end and welding threaded rod to one end and a nut on the other end that was about 3" long.. now it has some adjustment and will also twist when truck is flexing. I even drilled in a grease fitting so it would work smooth... only cost me about $10 in parts. would have been cheaper if i could have goten the threaded rod by the inch and not a 3 foot section
