Getting the Wheeling Fever
So a FJ80 owner told me that I should not be running Longfields on my mini truck daily driver/trail rig. He said that due to the hardness of the metal that it will ruin the axles and bearings. Has anyone heard this before?
I would argue that due to the weight of his 80 that is could only happen to 80 series and 60 series cruisers. This is all news to me though.

With the front hubs unlocked on the road, those parts are just sitting there, not moving (or wearing out anything). Maybe on a full time 4WD you might encounter higher wear as I recall hearing the Longfields are not hardened as much as the stock birfs. in order to make them stronger.

Ya, I think that's probably what he meant or maybe he misunderstood what they were telling him, but Longfield has suggested that AWD vehicles like the 80 shouldn't run them, because they are actually softer, which is why they don't snap and thus will wear out faster. I've heard figures like lasting only 30,000 miles, or so, but I could be wrong.

This isn't an issue with part time 4WD rig, with hubs at all.
