Getting the Wheeling Fever

1984 Toyota Pickup...22R engine. When the engine is running, the float chamber gas level is correct-right in between the two lines. After it's been turned off for a few hours, the float chamber gas level drops down to the bottom level of the sight glass and the engine takes 15-20 turns to start. What could be causing this to happen...any ideas?
