Seems to me the ignition stuff will be paramount to keep. I helped drop an 84 cab onto an 82 chassis with a 21R-U sitting in it a few years back. The alternator was a little different in terms of the plug and the bracket for the 'ears' for the bottom bolt.

Compare the ignitor/dist part numbers too, but try to resist brushing the labels off; I smudged mine on my 83. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
