Need a Spot

I have a 1984 toyota pick up. I want to build it just for 4x4 but nee some advice. Everyone I drive with has a 4" lift on there toyota 4.56 gears and a 22r motor. I want to be different so I want a bigger lift, but I have heard Toyotas get a little tipsy when lifted higher. Will a 3/4 ton chevy axle from an older pick-up or blazer make my axles wider so I can lift it higher and still be stable? Has anyone done this conversion?
