Getting the Wheeling Fever
I tried to replace two warped rotors on my 2000 4Runner 4WD. However I failed to remove the rotor from hub no matter how hard I tried (caliper was removed without problem). From this forum, it seems that rotor shall slide off easily after the caliper is removed. I even tried pickle fork and pry bar. I also banged the rotor heavily trying to break it loose. No luck at all. I really feel that there might be some mounting screws somewhere to hold it. But I could not locate any.

Did anybody have similar issue before? Thanks.

With the caliper removed, soak the inside rim with PB Blaster for a while. Then it is time to excercise the BFH - preferably a very large soft faced (ie rubber or composite) hammer. It will come off with the appropriate amount of encouragement. Best of Luck.

I forgot to mention it in my original post. I did apply PB plaster at the same time. I may want to try it again.

Thanks for your suggestion.

On 3rd gen 4Runners, (96-02) the axle nut does not need to be removed to get the rotor off like it does on previous generations.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I think Adam_F is right. I believe my two rotors are totally rusted which causes them very hard to remove. I finally gave it up after the second attempt...

I had them removed by a local brake shop (also two new rotors were put on) yesterday. It costed me $75 that was not bad. I did not ask what equipment the shop used to break them loose. I checked the two new rotors today and found it very easy to slide them off after caliper is removed. Anyway that's my update. Thanks.

I betcha the equipment they used was a big old hammer! (BFH) If you were replacing them anyways, you could have just beat them as hard as you can until they popped off.

Once they were off, the shop probably cleaned up the mounting surface and greased it up so the same thing doesn't happen again.
