[quote]"Just in changing the way I drive my 99XJ 4.0L 5 speed all stock I can make more significant changes to my fuel mileage. If I drive around aggressively and really rip through the gears I get about 19mpg, if I keep my foot out of it and drive around more normal, I average about 21 mpg,

I would kill for numbers like that. LetÆs face it - the wranglers have the aerodynamics of a billboard and that translates into low mileage. We didn't by these for the mileage. The low gearing and strong engine is what gets it through the mud and rock we want to traverse.
Some time ago I tried to change gears whenever that stupid idiot light told me too and still averaged just over 15mpg around town. With lots of highway driving, I can get close to 18mpg, but thatÆs about the best I can hope for.
Anybody know how that idiot light works? It once told me to up-shift as I was slowing for a light, at 15mph in second gear. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

Brad all of them I have looked at worked right off of the vacuume.. High vac turned on the light if it was in gear.
And low vac, such as one might have if accelerating, kept it off.
