I forgot. The other thing I learned about the differences was that the 4m40 trans is stronger than the 4d56 - manual that is (who would have an auto?). The older trans has a weak #2 synchro. Three of the six older MMCs I've had had synchro problems. I have to double clutch the Pajero I have now - easier than writing a $1200 check.
