I took off the top of the carburater and found the blockage was in the far end of the accelerator pump nozzle (end closest to the front of car) where there is a small orfice. Squirting carb cleaner spray into it wasn't enough, and the hole was smaller than my incomplete set of carb jet reamers...so I used a sewing needle with a bent tip. Even then it took alot of tries but eventually it cleared and the nozzle gives a nice squirt now. I'll know tomorrow if the starting problem is gone, but I'm pretty sure it will be. For now I can say the car accelerates stronger...and I wonder if my gas milleage will get worse because of the increased flow through the accelerator pump nozzle.

The only hard part about removing the carb top was getting one of the linkage arms off, and on. The linkage arm that goes to the secondary side is located in a tight space and there is no room to pull it out from it's attachment point. It took many tries before I found a position where I could detach it...same with the re-attachment. And there was some rust at the bottom of the float chamber, but not much. That's a good sign for the health of my 180,000 miles gas tank.

Thanks to both of you for your help, the suggestions made it much easier.
