Hey bOURGE, you have just described my symptoms to a "T". Sounds like it the right front cam seal. I'm going to have a local shop pull the front timing belt cover and check every thing over.

The '97 has about 90k on it. The timing belt was replaced at 67k by the previous owner but they did not replace the main seal or water pump.

If I'm paying for the labor to pull the timing belt cover and check the main seal, should I bite the bullet and have both cam seals, the main seal, and water pump replaced?
