Hi guys, working on pulling my 22re engine out of my truck. I believe I have everything disconnected and am trying to pull the engine out from the transmission. I can't seem to get the engine to slip out from the transmission. I can see gaps forming along the edges, but it won't seem to slip out. Is this normal for them to be this stuck together? It's never happened to me before. Thanks for any help,

Dan

I take it the nut for the starter is already removed, yes?

Betcha 5 smackers that you overlooked the aft-facing bolt on the driver's side, just below the exhaust manifold.

Ok, I got it. The dowel on the drivers side was just really stuck. Not like I've ever seen before. I just didn't want to break anything, but I got it. Thanks,

Dan

Body Damage is Cool
I lot of times i need to wedge a prybar in there, or even gently tap on in with a hammer. Pops right apart everytime

>>>*One thing to remember when pulling any engine is to get everything into alignment. The amount of friction that can be set up by just the input shaft is amazing.
I have had literally hundreds that felt locked up tight, and a good SHAKE or lifting/lowering of the hoist and without fail they almost fall forward.

Of course there WAS one! A 292" engine in a 1956 Ford (don't ask how old I was).....

My bu**head brother and I worked on it for almost an entire day, finally let's just say he was pi**ed off. He went and got our dad's 1948 Farmall tractor, hooked up the chain and hauled the engine out.

It came, too, along with a piece of the bell housing with the bolt we missed still attached.

*LOL**...Best the shake it loose....*EB

Good points Ted. I've found that it never hurts to use some alignment dowles whenever possible .

Make sure you get ALL the bolts off first , then get some 2" to 6" bolts with matching threads and the heads cut off.

They'll let you know right off if your alignment is close.

Just finished reduilding a Massey diesel engine . Though it has a normal rubber seal at the torque converter / transmission, the primarary oil seal is the flange on the rear of the torque converter that mates into a babbit on the hydraulic pump on the front of the transmission---very close tolerances and metal to metal --- and if those are not perfectly aligned , you're not going to get it apart or back together without ruining something
