Nothing will cool your engine better than a properly working clutch fan, and shroud.

I beg to differ...dual fans with built in shrouds cool much better than my single fan. sure worked on my old ford ranger.

You can differ all you want to, but the fact is that a 190 hp fan is going to cool your engine great.

PROPERLY working is the key here. When it is properly working, it will slip just as much as it needs to, and engage when your motor gets hot.

There are definantly some advantages of electric fans, but MORE cooling is not one of them, and there are quite a few negatives as well.

About the only time I would see electric fans being beneficial to us is during a water crossing.

NOW All that being said.. I run dual electric fans in my truck. ONLY because with my 4.3 in there, I cannot fit a clutch+fan in the space I have. Believe me. IF I had the room... there'd be a clutch fan and a shroud in my truck.

The reason for the Electric fan on the condensor is this.

The fan clutch needs heat to lock up and pull air. It gets that heat right off of the radiator, and the condensor is not close enough to lock it up, and make it draw enough air to cool the condensor. SO without the ac fan, you could get in your truck in Pheonix crank the truck, and max the AC out while sitting there idleing, and you'd be hitting 500 psi high side pressures because the condensor is not being cooled.

The people who engineered your Cooling system were Definantly much much smarter than me, and PROBBALY you too, and I am VERY sure that they spent more time researching the associated systems, and deciding on what was best. Maybe give them some credit, OR you'd better do your research. I hate to sound preachy, but this is just the way it is.

Body Damage is Cool
well you facts sound accurate...and I know the fan clutch is designed for a purpose. I don't doubt that properly working equipment is more than sufficent for anybody. I was saying that that my old ranger ran about 15 degrees cooler with the dual electric fans. and the factory clutch was working properly. could have been just a freak coincidence. my clutch fan hurts power incredibly bad though, that why im getting rid of it. my 2.5 litre needs all the power it can get.

Nigel, I'm gonna have to go with Curtis on this one: the power gains from losing the clutch fan are IMHO more than offset by the drain on your electrical system from large elec fans, which also take power...

Eli's application is for auxiliary useage, on the trail with little airflow, or in case there's something in his cooling system which is still not right, but I don't think he's planning to ditch the clutch fan altogether... if he is, I'm gonna try to talk him out of it.

This coming from a guy who put big tires on his truck, lifted it, put a completely different engine/tranny/xfer case in it AND cut the entire front suspension off and welded in one from a completely different brand.

This is very true, and I have learned MANY MANY lessons the hard way. It's taken me a bunch, and I mean bunch of screwing stuff up to figure out that OEM stuff is usually better than anything you can get cheap on the after market.

AND it has taken me years of screwing even more stuff up to realize that there's not a 308 duration cam in a car for a reason. That car did not come with 11:1 compression for a reason, and I was not "making it better" or "Improving their design" by stuffing domed pistons in it.

Modifying things correctly, and to last takes quite a bit of thought. If you just do what everyone else does, and don't know how, or why you are building something then it's probably going to fail. The impact of 1 modification on the systems surrounding it can be huge.

Take for instance your cooling setup. Sure those electric fans are going to blow LOTS of air, and sure it's gonna take the immediate load off of your engine, but have you considered the electrical draw? There is going to be an enormous load on your alternator now. It's gonna be angry at those fans . Now stack a winch on it, and idle for 30 minutes while winching, and trying to get unstuck somewhere...... Have you thought of a PWM type of control setup for it?? Thats what most of the electric fan cars eventually went to. You see where I'm going.

If you look closely at the things I build, you will see that the OEM designers are being totally ripped off. I set things up exactly they were when they came OEM. My front axle for example... Thats configured EXACTLY the same way it was in the wagoneer that it came out of. ALL the forces on it are the same. My engine... It's configured EXACTLY the same way it was in the 94 GMC truck that it came out of.

I've just duplicated someone else's smarts cause I'm a dummy.
