Need a Spot
First I like to say hello to the jeep community. I myself drive a 86 toyota 4runner and need some help. I'm in need of a pair of stock tj springs to help fix a rear sagging problem on my truck. Here is a what I'm going to do with the springs www.gearinstalls.com/dc.htm So if there is anyone out there that has lifted there tj and have the old springs laying around and doesn't mind helping out a toyota driver I can send you the money to ship to virginia and a little extra for your trouble. Just drop me an email compassr2@hotmail.com
thanks all
Joe

I had actually seen this somewhere else too not too long ago online, and I really have to wonder, WHY don't they just replace the worn out leaf springs, instead of making this cluster f@(& on the back of these Toyotas?

This is not my trail truck it is my daily driver so I don't want any lift. a new set of stock springs are over $250 and will just sag again. Tj springs are a cheap fix that lasts along time and provides a very soft ride. I didn't know the jeep community here was so negative and unwelcoming toward a fellow 4wheel drive owner toyota, jeep or other wise. I have seen many things crazier than what I'm tring to do.

I wasn't meaning to be negative or come across that way, it just seems like a band-aid to the real problem. Especially when something is a daily driver, on roads with lots of other people, I would prefer to see it fixed correctly. Granted this doesn't seem "THAT" unsafe, it just does not seem like the right thing to do to me. Lets put it this way, If I had a Toyota, I would spend the $250.00 for a new set of springs. When you think about $250.00 vs the Dr. and Insurance / Repair bills "IF" something fails and you cause a major accident, it really isn't that much.

Just my 2 cents.

Sean

Ok lets look at it from another direction. You have 19 or 20 year old springs. Adding another light weight spring might work for a few years before your STILL working original springs give away even more. So you will be back patching them again.
If you go ahead and spend the $250 you will most likely get another 19 or 20 years out of your new springs. Do it right the first time and it will be DONE!

hey Traveler, I am curious, how much does it cost to properly capture the coil springs between the frame and axle so you don't accidentially loose one? Fab work for a custom set of brackets isn't free.

Ok sorry I took what you said the wrong way. I just thought it would be a neat protect and a different way to fix a problem and get a softer ride. I weld for a living so I would fab up a way to make sure the spring doesn't fly out and kill someone. thanks for all the concern.

Well that makes me feel better about you doing it, but I have seen some on line that were literally just wedged between the bump stop and the leaf spring, with no retension features.

The one pic of the white pickup with the spacers stacked three-high got my gag reflex going. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> Don't do this. Spend the cash on some lift leaf springs, they can't be that expensive.
My $.02.
