 5.38 front ifs options

I loved my 5.38s with 33s. But I fragged 5.38 my front diff. I think we did everything right, properly broken in. Diff drop, Powerbrute LSD. It broke on a easy straight climb <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Anyway ..... Tera 5.38s front are gone, what about the Icelandic 5.38s? And I am not ready to go SAS. Going back to 4.55s for CoZu next month. Options?

Join the club. What broke on yours? Mine was ring gear teeth. Options? Run 30s on the front and 35s on the back <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />

Is this a common problem with the 5:38? I haven't installed mine yet , no time with me out of the province working all the time.I haven't even had time to trouble shoot my problems:D
If there is a problem with the ring gear in the front on the IFS it would be good to know as I am running 33's and have a lockrite in the front allready , just need the gears changed.

I have read a lot of praise for cryo treating ring gears in terms of durability. I know 66CJDean on Pirate offers this service. The MWIOR gang has managed to toast 3 OEM ring gears, both with open fronts and both with 32" tires. We are pretty hard on our trucks, though. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

I hope this is a rarity. I had a long talk with Matt (Inde4x)yesterday, as far as he knows I am only the third person to have trouble. I am having a different mechanic setup my original 4.55 gears with my LSD. And by next week I will have his opinion about what went wrong. I will be buying a 12bolt Aussie locker for the rear diff when it becomes available. Storing my welded 5.38 rear diff, maybe there will be another run of 5.38s and I can try again <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />

Rodeoguy(mike) broke his front 5.38 in Uwharrie with just a little bump of throttle..........he had 35's with a LSD.

maybe there will be another run of 5.38s and I can try again Did Tera stop production of the 5.38s? For some reason I thought they were still making the 5.38 R&Ps but not the TeraLow 307s.

Tera isn't going to make any more. Our only hope is Matt...he has done some of the legwork but is concentrating on other stuff like the 12-bolt locker and the transfer case gears at the moment. But the more interest he gets from people, the more interested he will get in putting up the money to get them made - a substantial investment on his part. So let him know if you are interested.
