I am sure there are a bunch of people who *WANT* to sell you the gears, but you see, they don't exist.

I suggest you post up in the Wanted section if you are looking for parts. I highly doubt you will find someone to give them up if they have a set.

Michael

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> More bad news .... Fragged my 4.55s with the LSD. Not sure what happened until I take it apart. But the odds of 2 mechanics setting up the diff wrong seems pretty slim, one is GM master mechanic with 40 years. I have another front 4.55 diff, swapping in the LSD should be very easy.

Also thinking maybe the LSD carrier might be bad <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Can't, Gears would be backwards. And flipping them to use the coast side would be a waste of expensive gears. Wouldn't last one trip. Beside if you want to build a Rock Crawler why not use a Dana 60? Parts are a whole bunch cheaper.

uh...what? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

i think you have some jumbled up tech here curtis.... you can't be serious right?

you do realize a D60 can be a front or a rear and they use the same gears....just like a Toyota 8"....just like Land Rover......or hell all the hybrid ford 9" stuff that's out there now (609's)

there would be no difference in making a front steer 12 bolt.....using the same gears F & R

only exception to this is Revers cut (rotation) gears like a High pinion Ford D60 (or similar reverse cuts) but this is only in a few OEM applications.

oh, and just for the record the 87 and older rear 10 bolt and the 10 bolt IFS are both standard rotation......just the fronts are a thicker gear.

SO....techically if you wanted a steering 10 you could just re-tube a rear 10 bolt <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

(sorry curtis, now i'm just pickin' at you <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />)

I don't agree, but, let me get my argument together and we'll discuss this.:) I don't know about the other rear axles, but I believe I'm correct on the Isuzu stuff!

In short, something to think about. The Isuzu transfer case input and both outputs rotate the same direction. (CCW)So how could a rear axle gear set work reversed in the front unless it's flipped? Then not only would it be running the coast side but the vent holes ect., would be on the bottom.
With a CW rotation of the driveshaft to the rear (looking from the front of the vehicle toward the rear) produces a forward rotation at the tires. Now mentally turn the axle 180 with the same CCW rotation at the flange. The wheels would turn backwards.

The 10 bolt and 12 bolt rear housings are stamped. So no changing the sleeve on them. The IFS front diff housing is sleeved like a Dana Axle on the drivers side. Therefore would be easier to convert to a straight axle.

I'll assemble some pictures with arrows and diagrams to present my belief.

Give me a couple of days and I'll make sure I'm correct. If I'm wrong then, hey, I'll concede. smile

Later guys.

Curtis

bring it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

you're wrong <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

how does a Jeep Wagoneer have a D44 in the front and rear with the same gear set....1 steering axle and 1 non steering.....same gears fit both

2nd - how does a Toyota have 8" gears f/r - same gears fit both.

i think you are thinking about high pinion ...like flipping the diff upside down....that does not work. it would run in the wrong direction. (you can actually do this too....but that is a different discussion <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />)
