The more I think about it, I'd rather have the torque down low for the Monty than the turbo motor. I have the tranny set up worked out and built to handle 300 ft lbs with the 2.85 low range. I can bolt up either a 3.9 mopar or a 318 to the tranny. both have rear sump oil pans. Has anyone put a V8 in there?

Yes.
2 have been written up here.
There's enough room for a 4.3L V6 (like mine), if you do a 2" body lift, and move the rad forward.
The 2 V8's required more drastic mods that that. One had to push the firewall back a bit in one area, and the other had to widen the tranny tunnel/hump to get enough room.

Any recollection of who did it, or just search "V8 swap" older than ? how long?
Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

First on the list of tools to make this happen would be a tape measure.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

One guy was "777" I think.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

I swapped in a 350 chevy into my 82 D 50 4x4. Don't know if the engine bays are the same. I'm leaving for 3 days on the Rubicon tomorrow afternoon so I won't be back until this weekend.
