OMG, I agree with Snowtoy. This thread isn't about politics though so I guess it is not that shocking.

Bill actually told me once "Rolling and breaking glass and spilling fluids is not treading lightly" so I know that he agrees with you too.

Still looks straighter than mine.

I don't go out to beat my rig up by any means, but I enjoy pushing its limits. I end up paying the price and I don't worry too much about it when it happens, especially as it has gotten progressively worse. It adds character and is pretty eye-catching (eye-sore?) out on the street.
I like really clean/capable rigs too, but I don't like worrying too much about trying to keep them that way. For me, its function and fun over fashion I guess.

I'm doing a body swap and a 3.4L swap though, so soon I will be "just like you."

.

I picked up a pristine high-mileage '97 to move all my running gear over to.

I'm kind of curious how my swap will compare price-wise with your 3.4L and body swaps. The new Runner was $6k...

your really lucky, your damage was minimal. I rolled mine in june, and i've been doing body work to try and mend my mistake by pulling out dents and using as little bondo as possible...

can't wait to see the new one

Body Damage is Cool
Bummer man. I can relate.

Snow, I see your point, but it's not economically feasible for me to do a body swap. So I'll wheel it beat. But I gotta get a cage first.

Anyhow, good luck with it Bill.

Wow, get busy at work and there's a whole bunch of replies to reply to! Thanks guys for the kind words.

The CanBack was on it. The rollbar took most of the force, and the CanBack tore a bit, and the rear hoop was 'customized'. (I have a new insurance-bought CanBack in my garage, they are back in biz just in time )The roll bar pushed the body down onto the frame a bit and the driver and passenger door openings were no longer square. But it drove home at highway speed, with the benefit of leaf spring clamps obtained at CarQuest in Moab - these will be added to my spares box.

As rollovers go, this one was pretty minor. It was on Double Whammy (I had cleaned it three weeks prior - WITH a good spotter), and the necessary throttle this time - (no spotter, ahem) introduced a hop which hopped the right front wheel off the upper ledge. The wheel hit with side force, breaking the main leaf and over she went - slow enough for me to contemplate my fortunes while the windshield spidered and the world rotated around me. Not fun.

Due to placement of the ledges, the top of the cab never touched. The Hi-Lift acted as sacrificial body protection though, and the hood was barely touched at the corner. The left side upper hinge tube in the rear did a great job of protecting the left rear corner, and the spare provided a surface to roll on. When it smacked the drivers side, it broke the left front wheel rim. It left an impression of black tire, with readable writing, on the rock. There were heretofore unnoticed OTHER circular patterns on the rock - so I'm not the first one.

Methinks Double Whammy will remain an obstacle I avoid in future. It's just not that fun an ob$tacle.

Why taller? 1" is minor but offers better engine clearance among other things. I intend to do a better job of rerouting the battery cables (though they are armored in irrigation flex pipe) just because. I will have to raise my rear bumper, but that ain't no thang.

The only thing with exocages is, they really impact gas mileage. Even my roof rack took 2mpg off at 70mph. The right rear, however, is definitely getting the same protection as the left rear. It works.

The motor? Months. Like, seven months. Mike was busy.
The body? I'll let you know. Terry says 3-4 weeks for everything. He is very thorough. It looks like all methods for opening up the wheel well do not meet his long-term quality standards however... Oleg does this regularly, but it involves copious bondo. That would not survive even a brush with a tree.

I may resort to Bushwackers, or nothing. I have a set of Gorilla Warflares that look pretty good, but are a bit large for the stock opening. I really would like to widen the tire coverage. It won't matter in Colorado, but might to the Beehive State's Finest.

Oh, and chrome trim rings for the beadlocks...

Oh, yeah, I forgot: one of Roger's most fine rock sliders bent a bit but surely prevented more serious damage. Based on that and the broken wheel, I think it pretty much FELL off the ledge square on the driver's side.

Yeah, and this is quite sensible too. But I did that once in Carnage Canyon and hated the dent on the right rear for far longer than I remembered the fun that day.

Your approach almost *has* to be cheaper. If for no other reason than you are doing it yourself. I *think* I could do the swap myself this time, but the 22RE-to-5VZ is MUCH harder than the 3VZ-to-5VZ. More than twice as hard. Time was the key for me. Coulda figgered it out, but would have taken me much longer than Mike even, and the enjoyment factor would have fallen off quickly.

We probably agree on more than we don't, that is other than in the areas of politics/foriegn policy .

It would be a pretty boring world if eveyone always agreed on everything.
