In putting on the new Can-Back (do I have things to be grateful for or WHAT!!?!? Can-Back is back in business and operating under a new owner), I ran into some issues. Can-Back's new owner did some redesigns starting with what little documentation they had from the old company (long story there), and some of them did not work out on the first run.

Can-Back's retail arm is TruckCandy.com, so I called them. They are sending out an already redesigned rear bar for the rear flap as soon as it is produced, and even loaning me a tool to reseat a nutsert that is not quite in place - with a return label to send it back.

Sure, I realize in this day and age most would just return stuff to WalMart if it isn't just right, but I appreciate their support and find it entirely reasonable and exactly what I wanted and needed.

Just a plug for good customer service. Shoot 'em a call. The new top is beeeeyoooteeeful.

I'll see what I can do. Right now I'm ten-tenths on getting it ready for hunting! Throwing a code, VSS malfunction (and the tach doesn't work, wanna bet there is a crossed connection? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> ).

It's getting close... still have to paint and mount the modified flares in the rear (Bushwacker thinks we keep the plastic bumperettes <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />). Still have to mount the softtop, grille, bits, etc.:

I highly recommend Terry and CIM Autobody in Northglenn. Even though I live on the south side of metro Denver and it's a pain to get there, worth every gallon.

Raked, you say? Notice the shackle angle. Ain't nuttin' IN the truck, not to mention no bumper/spare. She'll drag her butt in no time <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />.

Haha, Bill, where did you get the hood scoop? looks like somethin id like to try...

It's a Subaru Impreza scoop. The guy I bought it from suggested a WRX scoop possibly but that would have been TOO TALL! This one is about right. Wouldn't want it a quarter inch taller.

Cleared the VSS code (figured out more than I wanna know about the VSS circuit, it is a simple reed switch in the speedo. Somewhere along the line Terry put +12 to it. They don't like that much <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />). Easily swapped from the donor cluster though, once again I was reinforced in my "throw nothing away" mentality, uh-oh. Also got the tach working! Most of our problems were tied to an inaccurate ECM pinout I got from TIS? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Well, I got tired of the 'improved' Can-Back rear panel closure system with the tube. I appreciate how well it will work with a pickup, it will be a great idea when they get the bugs worked out. For a 4Runner though, since the tailgate latch is INSIDE, it just makes life harder and it doesn't seal particularly well (that may change with their redesign).

So I learned to install snaps on canvas and reused the snap rail that Terry kindly saved from my wrecked tailgate! My wife was laughing at me after I invented a snap crimping tool from the hammer tool that came with the kit, some quality grinder time, and a small C-clamp <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />. It works FABULOUSLY now. I guess I had a pretty funny expression on my face as I was showing her how I figured it out, and how well it worked. Who needs drugs, when you have homemade TOOLS!!!!

All codes cleared, the ECM is happy. Somewhere along the line in disassembling the speedo I managed to screw it up a bit, it now goes below zero and shows ~10mph low all the time <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Not a showstopper, I guess I will learn all there is to know about speedos shortly. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />
