Getting the Wheeling Fever
hey guys
i have an 87 4 runna with a 22re motor, it was sputtering and hesitating. I thought it was the exhaust leak. I put in in new donut gaskets. I then threw plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter at it to make sure those weren't an issue either. i took it for a ride and didn't seem any better. when i got it back to the shop i saw the CAT was glowing red! I then figured it was the cat, so i replaced it.
It is NO Better at all and the new cat is glowing too!
What should i look at next??The muffler is recent too.
I feel like it is dragging a boat anchor and sputtering still!!
Please help, any one ever run into this???
Jay

i jumped the diagnostic code box and it is reading 5 flashes, O2 sensor.
does this make sense??
it really runs like a$$
i just don't want to keep throwing parts at it but, it does read o2.

If your cat is glowing red, it's either plugged, which your new one can't be or you are running rich. If the computer told you the O2 sensor then something is up with it. I would guess that the O2 sensor is bad and is reading extremely lean. Not only did it set a code, it's causing the fuel mixture to go rich, and rich will cause a glowing cat. If you've got an exhaust leak, that will cause the O2 to read lean and appear to make the O2 look bad.
