Part of my new job has me doing take-offs. It makes my job very difficult when I have to try to guess what an architect means. I had one yesterday that couldn't tell the difference between a sanitary napkin recepticle and a toilet seat cover dispenser. I even called and he told me I was wrong.

There's another that writes very sloppy plans. I sent in an RFI with about 15 requests for clarification. He couldn't be bothered to draw things to scale and forgot to include a bunch of specs. That particular guy seems to have a pattern for this kind of sloppiness.

The other guy that works inthe same room as me tells me that architects are nothing more than artists that got a job in construction. He says they're idiots. I'm learning to agree. And I've only been there 3 weeks.

That explains why I kind of got it. As a contractor I've been getting sloppy/incomplete plans for years. I figured I could mess thingsup as bad as they can. Now I'm working on a degree to become an Architect. Irony is great.

Evidently the pay is great and it's almost impossible to get fired.

I'm only dealing with specialty stuff. I can't imagine trying to build what you do if the crap I'm finding is typical.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not seriously complaining. I love my job. It's sooooooo much better than fixing cars for a living.

Company up by me prepares house and grading plans but without the benefit of a civil engineer or surveyor. Difficult to fit the house when you realize a 10 foot wall was required to build the pad. Second, when called about what type of culvert pipe for the drainage crossing on a road, I received the shrugged shoulders look over the phone. Pros!!
