Hi everyone, newbie here.

I just bought a 2000 Sportage, with engine problems. The guy who had it explains he was driving down the highway and the fan came off the front of the engine. He continued for a km or so until it was safe to pull over. Upon pulling over, revs went down to nothing, and then it would not start again. He took it to a local shop (general Mechanics) and they looked at it. The have the timing cover off, and water pump off, but that's it. They said it needs a new motor.

They say it can't be skipped teeth on the timing belt, as the belt shows no signs off that.

The engine still turns over, but sounds like it has no compression. I figured it is a jumped timing belt.

Can anyone tell me what else I could check on this? The engine craks, looks like both CAMS are turning, obviously crank is turning.... But it does not fire.

I was goign to check for spark, once that is established put some quick start in the intake manifold and crank it.... to see if fuel issue.

I searched for links to setting ignition timing when doing a timing belt on these, but did not come up with any results.

Thanks for your help if you have suggestions.
