I found a picture I took comparing a 3000GT intake to an SR lower plenium and marked it up for you carlos:

I can't tell you if ALL those holes need tig welded, or if it's just the one on the end after removing the shaft.

Just to be more specific as far as where I can see/hear the air/vacuum leak coming from, here is a pic:
Also, are you guys saying to remove all 6 butterflies/rod, etc. and tig weld all 6 holes as seen on this picture?
Sorry for the first grade illustration but was the only pic I could find <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

we just took the buttery flys and linkage out and sealed the hole where yours says"air leak coming from here" make sure you get out the bushings too out if they are still there.

WOAH!!

NO, the holes that are to be tig welded are ONLY where the shaft that the butter fly valves are connected to passes through each wall, so the idea is that those holes that you made solid red will be completly open and the holes where the bushings are for the metal rod to pass through the aluminum walls will be closed up, including the front hole, where you have air leaking out of now.

Sorry for the dumb question <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />, I know it's obvious I should not seal those holes but I thought I ask. (hey at least I got your attention) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />
Thanks for the inputs guys, I really appreciate all you help! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
Do you guys know whether it will make any difference if I seal all the little holes (where the metal rod goes thru) or just the hole where the "air leak" is.
I know for sure I'll be removing all the butterflies and the rod/shaft seen on the pic. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
Hopefully after taking care of this the check engine light will go away, I would lthink is cause by the vacuum leak, right?

I think all you would ABSOLUTLY NEED to do would be to seal the outer ones open to the atmosphere... The ones on the inside could stay open, and prob not hurt anything. You might lose some of the "tuned port" effect since you will esentially be messing with runner length, and tuning. I doubt it will make much difference, and might even help some at lower RPM's.

See how much it would cost to do both, and if it's not much more, seal them all up.

Ok I'll ask. Why did it have butterflies to begin with?

Or for a shade tree GOB fix, unhook/plug the vac line, wire the butterflies in the open position shown, and gob on rtv over the leaky end and let it set up before you drive it. Are you SURE it's the butterfly shaft bushing leaking, or is the acutator diaphragm leaking? Piece of vac hose 3' long, one end in your ear, makes a nifty leak finder.

I started taking it apart this afternoon and let me tell you it's a pain in the <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> so many bolts/nuts/hoses/clips/harness/wires, etc, ect <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> that needs to be removed to access the plenum... I am gettin there though! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
I hope to have it all apart and have my fabricator come over and tig weld it over the weekend.
I will hate to do this again so hopefully this will solve this butterfly problem and I can move on and forget about it! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/sleeping.gif" alt="" />
I'll kepp you all posted!
